Chain Drug Review - Two first-time generics win approval from FDA.(Focus)
WASHINGTON — The first generic forms of meloxicam and venlafaxine have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
The former is marketed under the Mobic brand name by Boehringer Ingelheim Ltd. as a treatment for osteoarthritis; the latter, which Wyeth markets under the Effexor trade name, is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder.
The clearance of meloxicam was the result of a “cluster” review approach in which several generic drug companies were given approval.
